Local organizations are joining forces with the Maple Valley Police Department and Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety as the departments prepare to host the annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo this month.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 21 at Glacier Park Elementary School. The school is located at 23700 SE. 280th St.

According to the annual event’s organizers, several organizations and local businesses will participate this year in creating a fun and safe learning environment for children to develop rider safety skills.

The bike rodeo course will be designed to teach children proper street bicycling techniques. The course will feature a real stop light, street signs and a helmet and bike-fitting station.

Award certificates will be provided to all participants and helmets will be available to those who don’t have their own. There will also be a limited number of bicycles to borrow for kids who don’t have one or can’t bring their own, officials said.
