The “Guns and Hoses” softball game between the Maple Valley Police Department and Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety took the field for the second year at Lake Wilderness Park Saturday, Sept. 10.

The event provided fun for the players and spectators and food for the Maple Valley Food Bank and Emergency Services.

Play-by-play was called by City Councilman Bill Allison and the color commentator was Ryan Ryals.

The firefighters ended up on top after stopping a rally by the police in the late innings.

The game went into extra innings because it took extra time to light the barbecue.

This is the second consecutive year the firefighters have won the game.

Police Chief Michelle Bennett is planning new strategy for next year’s battle.
