Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety responded to a fire at Cedar Grove Composting, 17825 Cedar Grove Road S.E, at 5:48 a.m. Monday.
Interim Fire Chief Brad Doerflinger said firefighters had the blaze contained by 7 p.m. and the operation was completed by 10:30 a.m.
Eastside Fire and Rescue sent a tanker truck to assist the firefighters.
Doerflinger said the fire was fed by wood chips, which created dramatic flames.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
