Maple Valley city officials celebrated with Peter Powell of Powell Development the arrival of Fred Meyer on Wednesday afternoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony in front of one of the entries.
Mayor Bill Allison did the honors of cutting the ribbon while current and former council members looked on.
Powell described the efforts to get Maple Valley Town Square, which Fred Meyer anchors at the intersection of Kent-Kangley Road and Maple Valley Highway, as “a labor of love.”
The store opened to customers at 7 a.m. Thursday.
Other stores in the plaza are expected to open throughout the summer.
