Kentlake boys swim and dive team takes fifth at South Puget Sound League championship

It wasn't the result Kentlake wanted, a fifth place finish at the South Puget Sound League boys swim and dive championship on Saturday, but the Falcons didn't have an answer for the sheer depth of Curtis, Beamer and Kentridge, which finished one-two-three.

It wasn’t the result Kentlake wanted, a fifth place finish at the South Puget Sound League boys swim and dive championship on Saturday, but the Falcons didn’t have an answer for the sheer depth of Curtis, Beamer and Kentridge, which finished one-two-three.

The Falcons had hoped to beat Kentridge this time around and if they could have, they would have had a shot at the league title, instead the squad must now look to the West Central District meet this weekend at Rogers High School.

The bright spots for Kentlake individually were Erik Fulmer, who touched the wall first in 2 minutes, 6.27 seconds in the 200 yard individual medley as well as winning the 100 backstroke, and Tanner Keeling-Garcia who won 100 freestyle in 51.30 and took second in the 500 free.

Kentlake’s 200 yard medley team of Kyle Koon, Adam Felcyn, Christian Knoblock and Tyler Royal finished ninth while the 200 free relay team of Keeling-Garcia, Knoblock, Fulmer and David Dougherty took fifth place.

Knoblock finished sixth in the 200 free.

The Falcons wrapped up the meet with another fifth place spot in the 400 free relay with Fulmer, Keeling-Garcia, Dougherty and Koon.

Meanwhile, for Tahoma, Stephen Shin finished in third in the 100 back with a time of 58.34 and led off the sixth place 200 medley relay team for the Bears.

Logan Ryan, a senior from Kentwood, finished second in a pair of races — the 100 butterfly in 57 seconds flat and 200 IM.

On the diving board, Taylor Welch finished sixth for Kentlake and Tahoma’s Ben Price came in 10th. Kentridge’s Quinton Long finished second which was the Chargers best individual finish in any event.
