Kent School District school board was named a Board of Distinction for the third consecutive year by the Washington State School Directors’ Association. Only 15 out of 295 Washington State boards received this distinction.

“As a district we’re fortunate to be guided by board members with such dedication to student achievement,” said Superintendent Edward Lee Vargas. “To be recognized for three years in a row is a demonstration of their ongoing commitment to all students.”

The annual Boards of Distinction program honors school boards that demonstrate effective use of the Washington School Board Standards. The standards promote research-based governance practices that lead to high levels of student and district achievement.

“Each of these boards has excelled in school governance,” said Debbie Long, president of the association. “The boards had to rigorously document how their work was making a real difference for students. They are exceptional models of effective school boards.”

School boards were honored during the 2013 WSSDA Annual Conference in Bellevue. Kent School District Board of Directors are Debbie Straus, Karen DeBruler, Agda Burchard, Tim Clark, and Russ Hanscom.
