The Washington State Patrol released information that around 7:30 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 6, a head on collision happened on state Route 169 when the driver lost control and hit an oncoming vehicle.

A pickup truck was traveling southbound on the Maple Valley Highway and reportedly crossed over the center turn lane and hit a Jetta traveling northbound.

According to a news release from the WSP, “troopers and detectives responded and determined there was no impairment involved and the icy conditions were the main contributing factor.”

The driver of the Jetta was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

However, despite efforts at Harborview, it is being reported that the Maple Valley woman driving the Jetta has died from her injuries.

It is also being reported that the driver of the truck has minor injuries following the accident.

Also in the release, the WSP “wants to take this opportunity to remind drivers of the potential treacherous driving conditions this time of year. It is imperative that drivers are aware of the road conditions and adjust their driving accordingly. Slower speed, greater following distance and allow for more time to reach your destination.”

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
