Crestwood Elementary in Covington still struggles to find new principal before school starts

With a little more than a week left before school begins, Crestwood Elementary in Covington is still searching for a new principal.

With a little more than a week left before school begins, Crestwood Elementary in Covington is still searching for a new principal.

Chris Loftis, executive director of communications for the Kent School District, stated interviews are currently taking place and they hope to have a new principal by the time school starts.

“We are working hard to find the right person,” he said. “There are a lot of good candidates, but we’re looking for a great candidate. A good principal is absolutely key to an excellent school.”

According to Loftis, in the event that a decision is not reached by the time the school begins Sept. 1, an interim person would assume the responsibilities. This person would be supported by the school district and the school improvement team.

The new principal will replace Linda Butts, who led Crestwood Elementary from fall of 2008 through the end of this past school year in June.
