Covington car crash victim’s name still withheld

A 48-year-old Covington man died at a Seattle hospital Thursday night after being injured in a traffic accident.

As of Jan. 26, the King County medical examiner hadn’t released the victim’s name, as authorities were still trying to notify his relatives.

According to the King County Sheriff Department, the motorist, whose name wasn’t released by authorities, suffered serious injuries when his car went off the road in the 17800 block of Southeast Covington-Sawyer Road and struck a tree at about 11:10 p.m. He died shortly after being taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The man was driving a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and was alone in the car, a Sheriff Department spokesman reported early Friday morning. He said the department was still investigating the accident but detectives believe speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
