Comp plan OK includes Summit Pit

An update of King County’s comprehensive plan, including a change involving the Summit Pit property in Maple Valley, was approved Monday by the County Council.

Through the council’s action, the property that’s nicknamed the “donut hole” is brought into the Urban Growth Area (UGA) to incorporate the site and apply an urban planned development land-use category.

Prospective development of the property, which is owned by King County but inside the city limits, is headed for joint planning involving county officials and Maple Valley. The county has a pending deal to sell the 156 acres to Yarrow Bay Group, a developer that wants to build a housing community there.

The comprehensive plan is a guide for the county’s land-use and development regulations. County Executive Ron Sims said changes in the updated plan “will further support smart growth in this region for future generations.”
