Clothes dryer causes $700 of damage | Maple Valley fire report

At 2:43 p.m. March 17 in the 26800 block of Maple Valley Highway engine 80 was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival firefighters found the building evacuated and were informed that there had been a fire inside a clothes dryer and it had been extinguished by the occupants using a fire extinguisher.

Dryer fire

• At 2:43 p.m. March 17 in the 26800 block of Maple Valley Highway engine 80 was dispatched to an automatic fire alarm. Upon arrival firefighters found the building evacuated and were informed that there had been a fire inside a clothes dryer and it had been extinguished by the occupants using a fire extinguisher.

Firefighters proceeded inside to find a haze of smoke mixed with dry chemical extinguisher powder. A thermal imagining camera was used to confirm the fire was out; the fire was contained to the dryer and its contents. Ventilation fans were then used to clear the building of smoke. The fire marshal with the assistance of the firefighters investigated and determined equipment malfunction to be the cause. Loss was estimated at $700.

Accident with injuries

• At 6:06 p.m. March 15 in the 26200 block of S.E. Kent-Kangley Road engine 80, engine 83, battalion chief 81, aid 81, and King County paramedics were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries.

Reports were that a car traveling at least 60 mph collided with a tree and that the vehicle was on fire. Upon arrival firefighters and emergency medical personnel extricated the only occupant from the vehicle. There was no fire. The male patient had life threatening injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.

Kent-Kangley Road was closed for about three hours.
