Cedar Grove offers $2500 “Seeds for Scholars” scholarship at Tahoma for fourth year

Cedar Grove, a local , family-owned company that has been supporting this region’s recycling efforts since 1938, will award a $2500 scholarship to a graduating senior at Tahoma High School in 2016 for the fourth year.

Scholarship program supports local students focused on the environment

Cedar Grove, a local , family-owned company that has been supporting this region’s recycling efforts since 1938, will award a $2500 scholarship to a graduating senior at Tahoma High School in 2016 for the fourth year.

The “Seeds for Scholars” scholarship program, launched in 2013, recognizes a student at Tahoma High School student based on demonstrated interest, action and achievement in issues surrounding sustainability and the environment.  This can include, but is not limited to, Green Team membership, completion of a community service project involving building a garden, or supporting school’s recycling and composting efforts.

“The Tahoma School District in its entirety – students, parents, teachers, custodial staff, and administration – have led the way in King County, continuing to set the bar higher and higher for what can be accomplished on the sustainability front within school settings, some of which have the highest population of students in the State of Washington,” said Karen Dawson, director of community relations.  “Our company’s roots in Maple Valley run deep and, as we focus on innovation and sustainability, we’re continually impressed by the Tahoma School District and their work towards the same goals.”

The scholarship is also offered at Liberty High School (Renton), Everett High School and in the Marysville School District.

The company was recently recognized by Seattle Business magazine for its significant contributions to the community, winning the magazine’s Community Impact Award.

The scholarship includes:

–  $2500 payment made directly to the college of choice in 2015

–  The opportunity to be interviewed for a summer internship at Cedar Grove in the summer of 2015 and every summer thereafter while the student is in college

The student must demonstrate that they will graduate with a 3.0 or higher grade point average.  The student must have demonstrated leadership qualities throughout their high school career including such traits as being respectful of teachers, helping other students, good sportsmanship, and compassion.
