The rain did fall, and plenty of it.

The heavy rains came as predicted falling over Western Washington Saturday and Sunday causing flooding and mudslides in many areas to the north of Maple Valley, Covington and Black Diamond.

The National Weather Service has flood warnings for the rivers north of the south King County including the Skykomish, Snohomish, Tolt and Issaquah Creek.

The National Weather service reported 1.42 inches fell at Seattle Tacoma International Airport Saturday, Dec. 11, a record amount, and another record was set at 5 p.m. today at the airport with 2.16 inches collected.

Tim Perciful with King County Fire District No. 44, Mountain View Fire and Rescue, sent an e-mail stating the Green River between state Route 18 and 169 was being monitored for possible flooding.

“At this point it is our understanding that the river may get to 8,500 cubic feet per second (CFS) at the Auburn gauge around 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13,” Perciful wrote. “If the river gets to 9,000 CFS then we may open our operations center at the fire department and begin unified command with the King County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies.”

According to a release from The Seattle Humane Society, it is offering free emergency boarding for pets of families who must evacuate their homes due to flooding in King and Snohomish counties. The society can shelter, feed and care for pets until it is safe for the pets and families to return home.

The National Weather Service is predicting showers for Monday with a 90 percent chance of rain Monday night.

Tuesday predictions calls for showers with the rain returning Wednesday through the end of the week.
