A new judge is coming to town in Black Diamond.

The city lost their municipal judge, Steve Rosen, in the Nov. 2 election. Rosen was elected to the Seattle Municipal Court Position No. 3.

At the Dec. 3 City Council meeting the members approved Mayor Rebecca Olness’ appointment of Maple Valley resident Bill Bowman as the new municipal judge for the Black Diamond.

Bowman has an extensive legal career as a public defender and deputy King County prosecutor. He has been with the Seattle firm Fox Bowman Duarte, but recently joined Schroeter Goldmark and Bender located in Seattle.

Olness stated at the meeting six applicants were interviewed for the position and Bowman was the unanimous choice.

“It is truly an honor to be selected for this position,” Bowman said.

Bowman said he has worked as a trial attorney for 18 years, and he noted it is often said, “trial work is for the young. That may be true. When the Black Diamond position came open I thought it was time.”

Bowman completed his undergraduate work at the University of Washington and graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego.
