On Monday, April 18 John Schmidt, the owner of Neighborhood Grills, presented Pam Kreis, a teacher at the Tahoma Cooperative Preschool, a check for $884.

The money was part of the school’s fundraiser night that was held on March 29.

Auction for South Sound Critter Care to be held April 24

The 2016 Wild in Washington Benefit Auction benefiting South Sound Critter Care will be held on Sunday, April 24 at Renton Technical College.

South Sound Critter Care is a licensed wildlife center in King County, who are dedicated to the care, rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured wildlife, according to a press release.

The release stated, the center is hoping to raise much of its annual budget through the auction, with the sale of items such as tickets to see Adele and Billy Joel in concert, vacation getaways and guest passes to many local activities.

Bone marrow, stem cell donor drive at Glacier Park

On Wednesday, April 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Glacier Park Elementary in Maple Valley, a bone marrow, stem cell donor drive will be held.

Keri Heggenes, a kindergarten teacher at Glacier Park, is organizing this donor drive in honor of Maple Valley resident and mother of three, Karen Schmitt.

Be The Match is sponsoring this event. They are an organization that manages the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world, according to Schmitt. She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma a year ago and in February the cancer relapsed.

“We’ve become aware of the importance of stem cell donation and would love to find some good in this challenging journey, so I’m happy to put my story out there to get more individuals on the national registry,” Schmitt said in an email. “It’s such an easy way to save a life.”

Collecting unwanted prescription drugs

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the King County Sheriff ’s Office in Maple Valley (22300 SE 231st) the KCSO’s and the Drug Enforcement Administration will be collecting unwanted prescription drugs.

According to a press release from Cindi West, media relations for the KCSO, said this allows for the prevention of pill abuse and theft of potentially dangerous, expired or unused prescription drugs.

Tahoma band boosters hosting breakfast fundraiser

The Tahoma band and band boosters will be serving breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30 at the Applebee’s in Covington.

The cost is $10 per person and includes two pancakes, eggs, sausage or bacon and coffee, milk or juice.

The boosters request you bring cash or check made payable to Tahoma Band Boosters.
