Auburn Veterans Day Parade | 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov.9

The 48th annual Veterans Day Parade boasts over 200 units and over 5,500 parade participants, including over 25 high school marching bands, military vehicles, veterans’ units, honor guards and more. The one-mile parade route travels west along Main Street to A Street NW.

Screening of the movie ‘High Ground’ (NR)

2 p.m., Nov. 8 | Auburn Avenue Theater

A documentary that follows a team of veterans returning from combat in Afghanistan and Iraq as they set out to climb a towering Himalayan peak to overcome challenges and heal the mental and emotional ravages of war. Free. Open to the public on a first-come, first-seated basis. Limited to the first 250 people. Doors open one hour prior to the presentation.

Doolittle Raid Presentation

7 p.m., Nov. 5 | Auburn Avenue Theater

Listen to one of the few remaining survivors of the historic Doolittle Raid. Ed Saylor will share his memories of this 1942 attack on Tokyo. Free. Open to the public on a first-come, first-seated basis. Limited to the first 250 people. Doors open one hour prior to the presentation.

British Export

7:30 p.m., Nov. 7  | Auburn Avenue Theater

British Export has provided the ultimate Beatles tribute show for over a decade and performed for tens of thousands of fans at some of the most prestigious events in the world. With vintage suits and instruments reminiscent of the Beatles performances of the 60’s, their songs duplicate the sound of the original recordings. Check out British Export, and see why they were voted the top Beatles tribute, three times, at Beatlefest in both New York and Chicago. Tickets: $15 Regular; $13 Student/Senior; $10 for veterans and active military.

Vietnam Veterans Traveling Wall

Nov. 8-11 | Veterans Memorial Park

This exhibit that pays tribute to the men and women who served in the U.S Armed Forces. This half-scale replica of the Washington, D.C.-based Vietnam Memorial Wall contains the 58,249 names of those killed or missing in action from the conflict. The exhibit includes a 53′ museum and computers with databases available to help locate names on the wall. The Vietnam Veterans Traveling Wall will be located at Veterans Memorial Park, 411 E Street NE.

Auburn American Legion Post #78 Breakfast

7-9:30 a.m., Nov. 9 | Auburn Senior Activity Center

The breakfast is co-sponsored by the American Legion Post #78 and the City of Auburn. The breakfast is $6/person and includes pancakes, eggs, ham and juice or coffee. Pre-registration is not needed for this event. For information, call 253-939-5789.

Static Display & Exhibit Showcase

9 a.m.-2 p.m., Nov. 9 | Division Street SEA

variety of booths and displays will feature the Washington National Guard Rock Wall, a Bradley Fighting vechile and other military equipment and vehicles as well as veterans and/or military information.

Remembrance Ceremony and Lighting of the Flame

9:45 a.m., Nov. 9 | Veterans Memorial Park

The flame is lit and guarded through the night at the Veterans Memorial at Veterans Memorial Park, 411 E Street NE. Wreath placement, rifle salute, prayers and taps encompass this ceremony.

Veterans Day Marching Band Competition

1 p.m., Nov. 9 | Auburn Memorial Stadium

The state’s largest marching band and field competition is hosted by the Auburn High School Band & Choir Parents. Over 30 bands compete in the field competition and many of the bands march in the Veterans Day Parade. Event admission is charged at the door.

USS Indianapolis Presentation

6:30 p.m., Nov. & 2 p.m., Nov. 10 | Auburn Avenue Theater

Listen to and meet one of the last remaining USS Indianapolis survivors, guest of honor, John Woolston. Woolston will share his memories of the largest single disaster at sea ever suffered by the U.S. Navy. Free. Open to the public on a first-come, first-seated basis. Limited to the first 250 people. Doors open one hour prior to the presentation.
