15 Years of Miner’s Day

The annual Miner’s Day celebration is July 7 and starts with a 5K run.

Black Diamond’s Miner’s Day is set to be a day of fun for the whole family.

The event, located on Railroad Avenue in Black Diamond, is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will start off with a 5k run in the morning and feature local vendors and entertainment.

The event was created 15 years ago as a way to celebrate Black Diamond’s mining history and to highlight the local businesses, according to event director Tori Ammons. The town was founded as a mining town as coal workers moved to the area to work in the coal mines.

This year’s theme is Gold Fever.

“We are really focusing on the Klondike Gold Rush and how Seattle boomed as a result of people heading up to Alaska,” Ammons said.

There will be vendors, art booths, an antique show and activities throughout the day. Entertainment will include performances by Ryegrass and the Steve Israel band. There will be a skit by the Black Diamond Hysterical Society called “The Great Train Robbery,” puppet shows, a chalk art contest and a vintage fashion show.
