Food and community service are wrapped up into one happy package named Ginger Passarelli Senecal, also known as the founder of the Soup Ladies and owner of the Black Diamond Restaurant Mama Passarelli’s.

The Soup Ladies is an organization of about 20 volunteers who respond to the call when police, fire, search and rescue or emergency workers are at a scene and need food.

Senecal and her group provides soup or hot meals and drinks for emergency personal on the scene of a fire, or a search, or any of the many emergency situations that may arise.

What began as an effort to provide soup for her church, has blossomed into a service to the community that extends far outside the state.

From Hurricane Katrina, to the wildfires in California, to a search for a mountain climber in the Cascades, Senecal and the Soup Ladies have been on the scene – serving.

The Soup Ladies video was produced by Bruce Hudson.
