Rain or shine, Elk Run Farm volunteers keep on digging

On April 14, the farm teamed up with Cedar Grove for a farm volunteer day to celebrate Compost Days.

The rains persisted Saturday morning, however that did not faze the nearly 20 volunteers that showed up at Elk Run Farm in Maple Valley.

The Elk Run Farm is a project of the South King County Food Coalition, which represents the food banks in the area.

On April 14, the farm teamed up with Cedar Grove for a farm volunteer day to celebrate Compost Days. Volunteers worked on the soil with compost manufactured in in Maple Valley from local organics recycling programs.

“Compost Days is Cedar Grove’s thank you to the residents of the Puget Sound region for so diligently recycling their yard and food scraps, making our region a national leader in composting,” said Karen Dawson, director of marketing and community relations for Cedar Grove, in a press release. “By leaving their compostable material at the curb, Puget Sound residents prevent those materials from ending up in landfills and ensure the material is instead manufactured locally into nutritious soils.”

Elk Run Farm is located 22500 SE 275th Pl., Maple Valley.
