Under the management and direction of Eagle Scout candidate Reece P. Clayson a total of 16 workers, organized in three teams, recently completed a storm drain stenciling project for the city of Maple Valley.

The group visited a total of six neighborhoods and used white traffic paint to stencil this precautionary message adjacent to more than 330 storm drains:

“Dump No Waste; Drains To Stream.”

This project, which was approved by the Public Works Department, serves to help prevent pollution by reminding people not to put anything into their neighborhood storm drains because it does not go to a wastewater treatment facility.  Storm water flows untreated into ditches, ponds, vaults and infiltration facilities. Over time this drains into streams, lakes, rivers and ultimately into Puget Sound. Individual actions really do affect water quality.

Reece is the son of Kurt and Megan Clayson and is a member of Scout Troop No. 515, sponsored by the Lake Lucerne Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

In order to qualify for the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scout program the candidate must earn at least 21 merit badges, advance through four other ranks in scouting and serve in positions of responsibility in scouting. The candidate also must plan, develop and provide leadership to others in a service project that benefits his community, school or religious institution.
