Tami Bridges was inspired by the selflessness of her younger sister.
“She told me that she didn’t want any presents for Christmas this year,” Bridges recalled. “She wanted us to get presents for a family that she adopted.”
Bridges, a 2007 Tahoma High graduate, decided to do something similar.

With a Santa hat, a white beard and handmade wooden toys in front of him, Vern Heinle looks like the jolly old elf and the former carpenter acts a bit like him, too.
Heinle, 77, spent 40 years as a carpenter. For the past three years the now-retired Kent resident has put his skills to use making toys for the Forgotten Children’s Fund thanks in part to the association the Shari’s has with the non-profit.

A Maple Valley woman has been charged with third degree assault and driving under the influence following an incident near Tahoma High School in October.
Brandee J. Johnson is accused of running over and dragging a deputy while driving drunk, with a blood alcohol level of .21, at about 9:40 p.m. on Oct. 1. Charges were filed Dec. 3 by the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

Christian Behrens was trying to get back on defense as former Kentwood standout Josh Smith, who is now at UCLA, was on a breakaway during a league game in January.
Behrens planted his left foot and heard his knee pop.
