The Rotary Club of Kent honored the top 5 percent of the graduating class of each Kent high schools and two academies  in the Kent School District on Tuesday evening, May 22, at a celebration in the Lindbloom Student Center at Green River Community College.

Almost 200 people attended the event that was hosted by King County Sheriff Steve Strachan, who also happens to be the outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Kent.

Kent School District Superintendent Edward Lee Vargas, who is also a member of the club, handed out certificates to each of the nearly 80 students who attended.

In addition to recognizing the students and their families and hearing from six different student speakers, $21,000 in scholarships were awarded to ten different students based on their community service, financial need, academics, future plans and unique needs.
