Flood warnings have been issued throughout Western Washington by the state, the county and the National Weather Service this morning.
The state opened its Emergency Operations Center at 10 p.m. Tuesday while King County opened its Flood Warning Center at 4 a.m.
Residents of Covington and Maple Valley will see standing water on roadways but it is unlikely that the Cedar River will rise above the banks in this part of the county. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Cedar farther north near Landsburg and Renton.
Flood warnings have been issued for other rivers in the county. Residents of Carnation will be watching both the Tolt and Snoqualmie rivers, according to the NWS Web site, which said that as much as three inches of rain has fallen in the lowlands of the Central Cascades and as much as seven inches in the mountains with one to three inches of additional rain expected to fall throughout the afternoon. It is expected to taper off this evening.
Flood Warning Center staff are monitoring stream gauges and weather reports, and will provide updated information on river conditions as necessary according to the Regional Public Information Network Web site, www.rpin.org, and additional information will be available on that site.
