A residential recycling collection event in Maple Valley is planned for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at Rock Creek Elementary School, 25700 Maple Valley Highway.
The event is open for collection and will also include a worm bin and compost bin sale. A limited supply of compost bins and worm bins will be sold for $20 and $10 (cash only).
Items accepted include: tires, motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, steering fluid, crankcase oil, kerosene and solvents (do not mix together), lead acid batteries, alkaline batteries (household no button batteries), cardboard, porcelain toilets and sinks ($10 cash only charge per unit – remove seat, and wax ring), propane tanks ($5 cash only), bulky wood, branches (minimum 6″ diameter) logs, clean wood, pallets, plywood (no leaves, grass or sod), appliances and scrap metal (drain fluids from engines and mowers), barbecues, washer, dryers, ovens, microwaves, iron, steel, aluminum, brass, copper and ferrous and non ferrous metals ($5 each for water heaters with insulation on) no sealed drums will be accepted. Refrigerator, freezers and air conditioners will be charged $25.
Through E-Cycle Washington you can take TVs, computers, monitors, and laptops to the Maple Valley Goodwill, however, the event will accept DVD players, VCRs, stereo equipment, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, cellular phones and computer peripherals; keyboards and mice.

Compact fluorescent bulb or tubes are not accepted at the event, but can be recycled at the upcoming Wastemobile event in Covington on May 27-29 at the Fire Station on Kent-Kangley.
