Kentwood, Kentlake, Tahoma fall athletes receive all-league honors

The first season of high school sports is nearly over and a number of Kentwood, Kentlake and Tahoma student athletes were named to the North Puget Sound League Cascade division all-league teams.

The first season of high school sports is nearly over and a number of Kentwood, Kentlake and Tahoma student athletes were named to the North Puget Sound League Cascade division all-league teams.

Football

Kentwood

Kentwood’s Christian Duenas-Palatia was named Offensive Lineman of the Year and Devin Ridge was named Linebacker of the Year.

On the offensive side, Andrew Leick and Duenas-Palatia were named first team for offensive lineman. Yonas Meshesha and Tim Breeden received honorable mention.

Earning a second team honor for wide receivers was Darius Lubom. And receiving honorable mention was Jake Moore and Tre’Sean Steele.

Chaves Kalua-Fuiamano was named first team running back and Dyson Johnson received honorable mention.

Earning honorable mention was quarterback Justin Seiber.

And Stephan Watson wrapped up Kentwood’s offense being named second team tight end.

For defense, Amelika Jerome was named first team defensive lineman. And Jacob Fanning earned honorable mention.

Linebackers Duenas-Palatia and Ridge earned first team honors. And Rey Sekona received honorable mention.

Lubom was also named first team NPSL for defensive backs. And Stephan Watson, Mason Glover and Alex McGeachy received honorable mention.

Kicker Leo Tizoc and special teams player Omari Brown both received honorable mention.

Four players were nominated to the All-State game. They were Leick, Duenas-Palatia, Ridge and Kaula-Fuiamona.

As far as coaching staff goes, Kentwood’s Bryan LaBelle was named Assistant Coach of the Year.

Kentlake

For the Falcons, offensive lineman Brandon Kelley was named first team NPSL offense. Along with offensive lineman Eduard Mixich.

Running back Eddie Edwards was also named first team NPSL.

Receiving honorable mention were offensive lineman Kristian McFarland, David San Nicholas, wide receiver Trask Rogers and Mitchell Lockhart and running back Tony Heimann II.

First team defensive players for Kentlake included defensive lineman Kelley and linebacker Rogers.

Second team NPSL honors went to Falcons linebacker Marques Fuala’au and defensive backs Hudson Potts and Edwards.

Linebacker Micah Vaifale received honorable mention.

Kentlake’s Edwards also received first team NPSL honors for special teams as a kick off and punt returner.

The Falcons kicker Tyler Padilla was named second team and as a punter Padilla received honorable mention.

Edwards was named Special Teams Player of the Year and Kelley shared Defensive Linebacker of the Year honors with Joe Tryon from Hazen.

Edwards and Kelley were also nominated to represent Kentlake at the All-State game.

Tahoma

The Bears wide receiver Josh Smith was named first team NPSL.

And receiver Jerrel Chapman was named second team offense for Tahoma.

Earning honorable mention honors were offensive lineman Allister MacKinnon and James Mathews. As well as running back Jordan Omatsu.

Defensive lineman Mathews and linebacker Smith also received second team defensive honors.

Those Bears who received defensive honorable mention were linebacker Dylan Stewart, defensive back Chapman and Aidan Harmon.

Long snapper Zack Jenkins was named first team NPSL for special teams.

And Smith was also nominated to the All-State game to represent Tahoma.

Soccer

Kentwood

Defender Lexi Maslowski and goal keeper Hannah Roberts were named first team NPSL for the Conks.

And midfielder Hailee Gabbard, defender Mykenzie Moriarty and forward Naryia Hudson were named to NPSL second team.

And receiving honorable mention for the Conks were forward Faith Gauthier, defender Lindsay Bell and midfielder Samantha Tate.

Volleyball

Coach Kelly Kim from Tahoma was named Coach of the Year.

And junior Emily Smith from Tahoma was named Most Valuable Player.

Kentwood’s Aleina Gabriel and Riley Sansaver were named first team NPSL along with Tahoma’s Paige Anthony.

Three Conks, Jada Brown, Haylee Kent and Erin Gold were named second team. And Patience O’Neal from Tahoma and Kentlake’s Jordan Fong also received second team honors.

Kentlake’s Ryleigh Burdick and Tahoma players Ginny Mehl, Andrea Barrie and Cydnee Miller all received honorable mention.

Swim

Tahoma senior Lindsey Hanger was named Athlete of the Year and Kentwood’s coach Sharon Wright were named Coach of the Year.

First team NPSL honors were handed to Kentwood’s Annelise Hed along with Tahoma’s Hanger, Emiri Nishizawa and Shauna Monahan.

First team dive honors were given to Kentlake’s Kate Beliveau.

Kentlake’s Hannah Ruckman and Tahoma’s Liana Hammerstrom and Olivia Halbert were named second team NPSL.

And Kentlake’s Cassie Padilla was named second team dive.

Cross Country

Tahoma’s Dawson Besst was named NPSL Athlete of the Year.

And Tahoma coach Jeff Brady was named Coach of the Year.

Five Bears were named first team NPSL including Besst, Colton Egberg, Brian Martinez, Ethan Martin and Chandler Nill.

Kentwood’s Harsimran Singh, Ross Principe, Kentlake’s Hexekiah Goodwin and Tahoma’s Devon Walters and Kobe Shields all received second team honors.

Breanna Glover from Tahoma was named female Athlete of the Year. And Brady was also named Coach of the Year for girls cross country.

Glover along with Melinda Day and Katarina Zosel from Tahoma and Nicole Soleim from Kentwood were named first team NPSL.

And Tahoma runners Phoenix Aguilar, Mattilyn Hohn and Kayla Contreras received second team honors.

Golf

Nathan Cogswell from Kentwood, Alex Phillips from Kentlake and Tahoma’s Colt Sherrell and Justin Pederson were named first team.

Kentwood’s Riley Ohashi and Tahoma’s Parker Kneadler, Nathan Choi, Luke Taylor were named second team NPSL.

And receiving honorable mention was Kentlake’s Braden Threlkeld and Tahoma’s Colby Watkins.
