Mary Jane Glaser’s continual volunteer work in the community earned her the Maple Valley Golden Leaf Award from the City Council.
The proclamation cited her work as president of the Tahoma School Board, the Creative Arts Council and one of the founders of the Maple Valley Farmers Market as examples of her dedication and effort.
“I was deeply honored and surprised,” Glaser said.

Also at the City Council meeting to see her receive the award were several Tahoma School District administrators and staff members, as well as friends and her husband, all of whom had been asked to contribute to the proclamation.
“It was extremely touching and surprising and very meaningful,” she said.
The award came as a surprise to Glaser, who came to the meeting to discuss the formation of an ad hoc committee pertaining to public artwork in the newly finished roundabout on Witte Road.
“I was told the mayor had further questions for me,” she said.
Glaser currently serves as the president of the Creative Arts Council, which held its art festival as a part of Maple Valley Days at Lake Wilderness Lodge. Glaser stated she was pleased to have the day the council honored her, June 11, be the same day as the festival.
“I had a terrific day,” she said. “It is so impressive to me that people from our local community are creating such quality pieces of artwork and its wonderful to be able to display their artwork for all of the community to see. And our audiences were better than ever.”
