Tahoma takes top spot in Region 1 4A wrestling tournament | Slide Show

The Tahoma High wrestling team came out on top of the heap in the Region 1 4A wrestling tournament Saturday at Auburn High School and now the team has its sights set on the state crown. Tahoma scored 197.5 points as a team, outscoring second-place Lake Stevens with 172.

Lake Stevens won the state tournament last year and Tahoma came in fourth.

The Bears brought home three individual titles at the regional tournament.

Two-time state champion Nick Bayer is on the path to bring home a third title after winning the 189 pound division with a 15-5 decision over Justin Grow from Lake Stevens at the region tournament.

As a sophomore Bayer won the 160 pound weight division title and last year he took the 171 title.

Senior Tyler Lamb pinned Christian Hayden, also a Tahoma High senior, in 46 seconds Saturday in the 140 division.

Lamb took second last year at 135 pounds in the state tournament.

The third regional title came from Konner Knudsten at 215 pounds. Knudtsen took a 5-3 decision over Auburn’s Chris Young.

Last year at state, Knudtsen took third in the 215 division.
