The third season of the Maple Valley Farmers Market opens 9 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at Rock Creek Elementary School.
To help promote this thrid season, the Maple Valley Farmers Market Board held its third annual poster contest, resulting in over 60 entries submitted to Tahoma High art teacher Kerstin Feist, who assigned the poster as a class assignment.
Victoria Laise-Jonas, president of the board, stated, “I am proud to present the unveiling of our 2011 Farmers’ Market poster. Megan Hoy, a sophomore from Tahoma High School, was the winner. A big thanks goes to teacher Mrs. Kerstin Feist for all of her assistance with this project.”
In addition to having her design posted around the city, Hoy will be awarded a $25 Maple Valley Farmers Market Bucks to use at any vendor at the Farmers Market. Any local storefront businesses interested in displaying the 2011 Farmers Market poster should contact Victoria Laise-Jonas at info@maplevalleyfarmersmarket.org or 425-463-6751.
A mini-taste of the upcoming market will be offered at Maple Valley Days the weekend of June 10-12. Three booths, selling jewelry (Maple Valley artisan Lara Lutrick), biscotti and other baked goodies (Maple Valley baker Loretta Gommi/Mama Rizzo’s Biscotti & More), and jam (Black Diamond home-made jam processor Nicki Fromel/ Chelane’s), will be open, along with the market information booth. In addition, Mrs. Utter-Butter, the market’s mascot, will be returning.
The third season of the MVFM brings 13 new vendors, 13 nonprofits already scheduled and weekly entertainment, and the return of its motto, “It’s the Saturday morning place to be!”
