Local company wins Master Builders Association award and more community news

Memorial Day festivities at Tahoma National Cemetery

The Tahoma National Cemetery is hosting an event Monday, May 28 at 1 p.m. to remember and honor military members.

The keynote speaker is still to be determined. Assistant Director Jennifer Dehorty will give a welcome speech followed by Director Tom Yokes who will provide an update on the cemetery.

Fighting weeds event in Kent

The Washington State University Extension Forestry program is offering a day long invasive forest weed control event to help landowners learn how to deal with invaders like blackberries, ivy, holly and others.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at 29224 Thomas Rd. SE in Kent.

Pre-registration is required and must be done by 5 p.m. May 31. The cost is $15 per person or $25 per couple. After May 19, prices increase to $25 per person and $35 per couple.

On May 5 local remodeling companies gathered to celebrate their craftsmanship and talents at the annual Remodeling/Trade Remodeling Excellence Awards.

Vision Woodworks from Maple Valley won REX award for Design Excellence in the Details/Finishes/Trades category.
