On Sunday morning, reader Julie Millage noticed a mama duck sitting near the grate of a storm drain in the Pebble Creek neighborhood.
Millage told The Reporter she could out and looked and saw ducklings swimming below, stuck in the drain.
Black Diamond fire crews rescued 11 ducklings that morning from the drain.
“After a few unsuccessful phone calls for assistance from other organizations, these men arrived and went above and beyond their call of duty—especially since the neighborhood is in the Maple Valley fire district,” Millage wrote in an email to The Reporter.
She added that Maple Valley Fire did arrive on scene and along with Black Diamond Firefighters helped the family of ducks cross the street.
