What’s blooming at Lake Wilderness Arboretum | Sept. 16

As President of the Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation, Noel Paterson helps guid a mostly volunteer group of people in the nurture of a local destination that preserves native plants and showcases special gardens and landscapes.

“The Arboretum also provides educational opportunities, an artistic environment and a place of serenity for people to enjoy,” Paterson said. “We hope people will learn about us, volunteer, visit for the first time or return to our gardens year after year.”

What’s your favorite Arboretum feature right now?

My favorite is the cedar totem just off of the meadow and Tribal Life Trail. A local artist made it for us, and many members helped finish it before setting it up.

Maple Valley’s Make a Difference Day takes place Oct. 26. What’s so important about it?

The amount of work we get done is incredible and is very valuable for the Arboretum. Seeing my neighbors and friends all working together and enjoying themselves while contributing to the community builds strong bonds and community pride.

Meet Paterson and Board Member Scott Jonas this Saturday in the Arboretum’s booth at the Maple Valley Farmers Market.
