Kentwood, Tahoma girls dominate league meet

Kent and Tahoma track and field teams battled it out at the South Puget Sound League subdistrict meet at Kent-Meridian May 9 and May 11.
The top nine finishers in each event will advance to the West Central District meet on Friday at Mt. Tahoma High in Tacoma.
Tahoma senior Aaron Davis took ninth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.46 seconds and second in the shot put with a throw of 48 feet, 6.5 inches. He also placed third in the discus with a throw of 146-3. Junior Jacob Larsen took sixth in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line at 1:59.87. The 400 relay team, comprised of freshman Jacob Contreras, Davis, freshman Tyler Gage and senior Jaren Dorn, took seventh with a time of 44.12. The Bears 1,600 meter relay team took ninth, with sophomore Jordan Conner, junior Merritt Kropelnicki, Larsen and junior Brennan Tommey running a combined time of 3:32.38. Sophomore Riley Campbell placed fourth in the two mile 9:43.41, while junior James Dagley placed seventh with a time of 9:45.43.
In the pole vault, sophomore Tucker Mjelde took second with a vault of 12-0, while juniors Peter Nelson and Brad Patrick took fourth and eighth respectively, vaulting heights of 11-6. Junior Dallas Hayes placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 45-9.5 and fifth in the discus with a throw of 138-9.5. Senior Joshua Benson placed third in the javelin with a throw of 148-2, while junior Anthony Gasero placed fifth with a throw of 143-10.
Bears junior Olivia Ranft took second in the 400 meters with a time of 59.53 and fifth in the triple jump with a combined leap of 35-10.
Freshman Delaney Tiernan finished the meet with a first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.41, fifth place in the mile at 5:15.25 and fourth in the two mile with a time of 11:20. Freshman Amanda Kiefer took fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.21.
The 1,600 meter relay team, made up of Ranft, senior Cassidy Richmond, freshman Emma Terry and junior Nadia Sinner, took third with a combined time of 4:04.85. Their 400 meter relay team, made up of junior Savanna Haverfield, Richmond, junior Paige Hammock and senior Emery Dillon, took fifth with a combined time of 50:07. In the 100 meters, sophomore Cheyenne Haverfield placed fifth with a time of 15.84.
Junior Savanna Haverfield placed sixth in the 100 at 15.87 and third in the javelin with a throw of 105 feet, six inches. Richmond placed sixth in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing at 46.75. Junior Elizabeth Oosterhout placed sixth in the mile, running at 5:15.27 and fifth in the two mile at 11:27.32. n field events, senior Kayla Kershner took sixth in the pole vault, vaulting at eight feet. Seniors Alivia Ward and Nadine Hyde placed seventh and ninth in the shot put, throwing it a distance of 35-11.5 and 32-9respectively. Hyde took second in the discus, throwing it 117-2. Sophomore Claire Whiting took fifth in the discus with a throw of 105 feet, four inches, while junior Kylie Eager placed sixth at 105-1. Junior Rosie Lind took fourth in the javelin with a throw of 102-1.
Conks senior Danny Lunder won the mile race with a time of 4:22.75. He also took third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.56. Sophomore Robin Cheema took ninth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.17. Their 400 meter relay team, made up of senior Matt Riddle, freshman Bailey Paladin, sophomore Ivan Semerenko and freshman Brandon Stribling, took ninth with a time of 44.48. Their 1,600 meter relay team took eighth, with senior Forrest Salgado, freshman Tanner Heinz, Paladin, Cheema running a combined time of 3:32.10. Sophomore Treyvon Floyd took ninth in the high jump with a leap of 5-10. Riddle took third in the pole vault, vaulting at 12 feet. Sophomore Brandon Sytsma took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 19-8.75. Sophomore Terence Grady placed sixth in the discus, throwing it 137-2.
Kentwood senior Madelayne Varela took fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 12.72, fourth in the 200 meters, finishing with a time of 25.82 and third in the long jump with a leap of 18-0. Senior Mykala Benjamin took seventh in the 100 meters, running a time of 12.89. She also took sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.55. Freshman Amari Bradley finished eighth in the 400 meters at 1:01.38.
Sophomore Tessa Carlin placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.27, while junior Ally Irwin placed seventh at 2:23.75 and senior Megan McNally took eighth at 2:25.13.
Their 1,600 meter relay team, comprised of Bradley, junior Carly Horn, McNally and Carlin took fourth with a total time of 4:10.31. Their 800 meter relay team placed fourth, with Bradley, freshman Malea Munoz, sophomore Sarah Toeaina and Benjamin running a combined time of 1:46.55. The 400 meter relay team finished seventh, with Benjamin, sophomore Tori Vallala, Munoz and Varela running a combined time of 50.46. Sarah Toeaina took seventh in the 100 meters, crossing the finish line at 15.96. She also placed ninth in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing at 47.47.
In the field events, Horn placed seventh in the high jump, making a vertical leap of five feet. Junior Beth Parrish placed first in the pole vault, vaulting a height of 10-6. Senior Alyx Toeaina won the discus, throwing it a distance of 120-0, three inches. She also took second in the shot put, throwing it 42-10.75. In the discus, senior Jenica Robinson placed eighth, throwing it 98-0, one inch. Senior Kacie Seims won the javelin with a throw of 128-0.
Kentlake sophomore Matt Dispenza took second in the high jump, making a vertical leap of six feet, six inches. Junior Jake Bailey placed eighth in the shot put, throwing a distance of 44 feet, 10.75 inches. Bailey also took seventh in the discus with a throw of 131-0. Junior Kevin Hall took eighth in the javelin with a throw of 140-4.
Falcons junior Marisa Lytle took fifth in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line at 59.95. Freshman Tori Lanza finished ninth in the 100 meters, running a time of 16.17. She also took sixth in the 300 meter hurdles at 46.75, tying with Tahoma’s Richmond. In field events, freshman Timary Mathena and Lizzy Reichlinger took eighth and ninth in the pole vault, vaulting at eighth feet.
In the discus, junior Carrie Radowick and senior Virginia Kepler placed seventh and ninth respectively, throwing at 101 feet, one inch and 94-6.5. Freshman Kiki Gilbert placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 94-10.
