Pacific Raceways near Covington to host high school drag race May 12

The largest single-day high school drag race on the west coast will take place Saturday, May 12 at legendary Pacific Raceways near Covington.

Racer and spectator gates open at 9 a.m. for the All High School Drags Presented by Primus International, Pep Boys Service and Tire Centers, Green River Community College and Bracketstars.

On the line will be scholarships from GRCC’s Trades Division, bragging rights, and the chance to race an NHRA professional racer at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA NW Nationals in August.

Racers will also be earning points for their high school team.  In addition to the student race, high school teachers will be competing in a special class.

Yakima’s Derek Snelson will be making passes in his fire and thunder jet funny car WarHawk throughout the day, too.

Racers under 18 must have a signed parent permission form available at the raceway website www.pacificraceways.com.

Student and teacher racers must purchase a tech card and all cars must be able to pass a technical inspection.

No motorcycles are allowed to run during the event.  Tech cards – for race car and driver – are $30, General Admission tickets are $15 for persons 15 and older; $10 admission with ASB Card; juniors are $5 and kids 6 and under are free.

There is a $5 charge for VIP spectator parking in the pits or free parking in Lot A.Last year’s winner was Zach Morraitis of Auburn Mountainview High School.
