The city of Maple Valley flipped the switch on the holiday season Dec. 1 with the Christmas tree lighting event at The Lake Wilderness Lodge and arboretum.

A large crowd gathered to enjoy live music from the Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra, cookies, treats and Santa Claus brought by a Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety fire engine.

There was also a family craft room sponsored by the Greater Maple Valley Community Center and train rides through the arboretum.
