The Tahoma High wrestling team made its way to the Tri-State Wrestling Tournament at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene and came home with three championships, a second and a third-place medal for the team.
The Tri-State Tournament started Dec. 18 and finished up Saturday.
Winning the championship in the 103-pound division was Steven Hopkins pinning his opponent Josh Andrew of Richland High at 3 minutes, 48 seconds.
Tyler Lamb was the champion at 140 pounds winning by default over Brandon Riehle from Ferris High in Spokane
In the 215-pound division, the Bear’s Konner Knudtsen won the top spot over Mead High’s Jacob Trotter with a 4-3 decision.
Nick Bayer finished second in the 189 division losing a 5-0 decision to Taylor Meeks from Orting High.
As a team, Tahoma scored 165.50 points to finish third behind leader Lake Stevens with 191 and University at 170.
Tahoma beats Kent-Meridian
Before heading to Idaho, the Bears took another South Puget Sound League 4A North Division victory, this time over the Royals 49-21.
Highlights included Tahoma’s Tyler Parker pinning Camillo Massagli in 34 seconds in the 112-pound division.
The Bears’ Jordan Jolley, 125, pinned Alec Moss at 2:39 and Jesse Vaughan, 130, pinned David Watson at 5:40.
Jordan Higa, 135, picked up a major decision over John Nguyen, 21-10.
Bayer, 189, pinned Thomas Reinhart at 3:17.
Tahoma’s Zach Dopps, 215, took a 10-5 decision over Jean Claude Atkinson and Aaron Davis, 285, pinned Junior Leuelu at 33 seconds.
Tahoma is scheduled to compete in the Viking Classic at Lake Stevens Tuesday and Wednesday.
