Tahoma wins Tomahawk Classic | Track and field

The Tahoma boys and girls track team won the Tomahawk Track and Field Classic this past weekend at Quil Ceda Stadium in Marysville.

The Bears boys took first out of 10 teams, defeating second place Squalicum 130-101. The Bears girls defeated second place Issaquah 198.25-112.25.

Bears boys senior Jared Dorn took fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.60 seconds, breaking his regular season record by .28 second. Sophomore Harold Thordarson took sixth with a time of 11.70, a new personal record. Dorn also took sixth in the 200 meters, crossing the finish line at 24.50. Senior Tyler Hillyer took eighth in the 200 at 24.67. Freshman Jacob Contreras took third in the 200 with a time of 24.03, a new personal record by .8 second. Contreras also placed 10th in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet.

In the 400 meters, juniors Brennan Toomey and Merritt Kropelnicki took seventh and eighth, running times of 53.96, a new personal record, and 54.02 respectively. Sophomore Jordan Conner took tenth after finishing at 54.71. Junior Brendan Newell placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.58, beating his old personal record by .02 second.

In the mile, sophomore Riley Campbell took third with a time of 4:32.96, while juniors James Dagley and and Travis Scacco placed fourth and seventh with times of 4:33.67 and 4:42.09 respectively. Campbell and Dagley also took second and fifth in the two mile, crossing the finish line at 9:59 and 10:04.07 respectively. Senior Tyler Ward placed third in the two mile with a time of 10 minutes exactly. Freshman Tyler Gage took fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 17.35. He also took first placed the 300 hurdles with a time of 42 seconds, a new personal record, as well as 10th in the long jump with a horizontal leap of 18 feet.

The 400 relay team, comprised of Aaron Davis, Thordarson, Gage and Contreras, took fourth with a combined time of 44.45. Their 1,600 meter relay team took sixth, with Scacco, Conner, Kropelnicki, and Tommey running a combined time of 3:40.63. The two mile relay team, comprised of Caleb Krafsky, Newell, Kameron Granger and Nicholas Pennington, took first with a time of 8:49.60.

In field events, Davis placed second in the shot put and fourth in discus, throwing at 49 feet, five inches and 122 feet, 10 inches respectively. Junior Dallas Hayes took sixth in the shot put and third in the discus, throwing 45 feet and 136 feet respectively.

Sophomore Brock Eager took sixth in the discus with a throw of 118 feet, 10 inches. In the javelin, junior Anthony Gasero took second with a throw of 141 feet, three inches, while senior Joshua Benson and junior Troy Coselman placed fifth and ninth, with throws of 137 feet, six inches and 131 feet, five inches respectively.

Senior Nathaniel Nichols placed third in the high jump with a vertical leap of five feet, six inches, while junior James French took eighth, jumping five feet, four inches. Junior Brad Patrick placed fifth in the pole vault, vaulting a height of 11 feet, tying his personal record. Sophomore Julian Sumler took 10th in the triple jump, leaping a total distance of 35 feet, 11.25 inches.

Bears girls junior Paige Hammock took fifth in the 100 meters, second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 hurdles, with times of 13.16, 26.90 band 16.30 respectively. Junior Savanna Haverfield took seventh in the 100 meters, first in the 100 hurdles and second in the javelin, with times of 13.49 and 16.10 respectively and a throw of 112 feet, five inches.

Senior Emery Dillon placed seventh in the 200, crossing the finish line at 28.70. Junior Jennifer Barrack took 10th with a time of 28.92. Barrack also placed sixth in the long jump at 15 feet, 5.75 inches. In the 400 meters, junior Olivia Ranft placed second at 59.69, breaking her pervious personal record of 60.18 from the April 25 meet against Kentwood. She also placed third in the long jump and second in the triple jump, leaping a horizontal distance of 16 feet, .75 inch and 34 feet, 5.5 inches respectively.

Freshman Emma Terry took eighth in the 400 at 1:02.66, a new personal record, while junior Nadia Sinner placed 10th with a time of 1:04.96. Freshman Delaney Tiernan took fourth in the 800 meters, finishing at 2:21.16, a new personal record by two seconds. Fellow freshman Amanda Kiefer took seventh at 2:26.84, nearly a full second faster than her previous personal record.

Junior Elizabeth Oosterhout won the mile with a time of 5:22.33. Freshman Abby Atchison took fourth in the mile and third in the two mile, with times of 5:28.71 and 11:45 respectively. Her mile time was a two second improvement over her previous personal record from the April 25 meet against Kentwood. Junior Bridget Wulfing took 10th in the mile with a time of 5:43.23. Freshman Katelyn Sherick placed sixth in the two mile, crossing the finish line at 12:14. Senior Julianna Mock placed ninth at 12:37.

Sophomore Cheyenne Haverfield placed second in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles, with times of 16.20 and 49.84 respectively. Senior Cassidy Richmond won the 300 hurdles, finishing at 47.90, a new personal record. Junior Madeline Smith took sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.34 and seventh in the triple jump with a total leap of 31 feet, 4.75 inches.

Their 400 relay team took first, with Savanna Haverfield, Richmond, Hammock and Dillon running a combined time of 50.50. Their 800 relay team, comprised of Dillon, Ashley Roach, Sinner and Terry took fourth, with a combined time of 1:54.21. The 1,600 relay team took fourth as well, with Sinner, Cheyenne Haverfield, Ranft and Richmond running a time of 4:14.68. Their 3,200 meter relay team, comprised of Kiefer, Sherick, Mock and Tiernan took first, running a combined time of 11:37.37.

In field events, junior Kylie Eager took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, seven inches. Sophomores Claire Whiting and Jessica Sexton took sixth and seventh, throwing at 31 feet, three inches and 30 feet, 11 inches respectively. Senior Nadine Hyde took ninth with a throw of 30 feet, five inches. Hyde also took third in the discus, throwing at 114 feet, three inches. Whiting placed fourth with a throw of 101 feet, 11 inches, while Eager took sixth with a throw of 94 feet, nine inches. Junior Rosie Lind placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 102 feet, four inches.

In the high jump, junior Hayley Warren and freshman Sara Sehrt placed third and fifth, jumping at four feet, 10 inches and four feet, eight inches respectively. Warren also took fifth in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump, leaping at 15 feet, 8.25 inches and 30 feet, three inches respectively. Senior Kayla Kershner placed eighth in the pole vault after vaulting a height of eight feet.
