Tahoma High School boys lacrosse coach Brian Johnson was named Coach of the Year by the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association.

Johnson, in his second year as Tahoma’s head coach, had just six seniors on his roster, but guided the Bears to the Division I SPSL/Narrows Conference crown. The team finished with a 13-5 record and advanced to the state tournament semifinals, where they fell by one goal to eventual state runner-up Issaquah.

Five of Johnson’s athletes were awarded SPSL/Narrows All-Conference honors, including first-team selections Hudson Taylor and Brody Sullivan, both juniors, and second-team honorees junior Dakoda Barger and sophomore Macen Granlund. Sophomore Nate Gowdey earned honorable mention recognition.

“This award is recognition of the hard work are kids put in for the program,” Johnson said in a press release. “We’ve fostered a close-knit family group similar to when I played.”
