In a game of twists and turns, the Tahoma Bears kept the fans, friends, parents and coaches on the edge of their seats until the bottom of the seventh when the team clinched the sixth seed in the state baseball tournament.

Tahoma came out on top with a 8-7 victory or Gig Harbor.

Tahoma was down 7-0 early in the game due to some errors and timely hitting by Gig Harbor, but ended up grabbing the win because of a throwing error by the Gig Harbor catcher Parker Guinn to first baseman Lucas Marshall.

“Baseball is a funny game,” coach Russ Hayden said. ‘We didn’t have any errors in the final three innings, but we had a couple early.”

Despite the deficit, the boys never gave up and clawed their way back into the game one run at a time.

The meat of the rally occurred in the bottom of the fourth when the Bears were down 7-1. The team had scored one run in the bottom of the third.

Tahoma posted five runs by putting the ball in play, running hard on the bases and never letting up or giving up.

Chris Seubert picked up the win in relief. Spencer Hobson started the game.

Hayden said this was Seubert’s second win in relief this season and he has also notched two saves for Tahoma.

At the plate Brian Olson went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.

Jason Smith hit 3-for-4 including a double and he had two RBIs.

Tyler Watkins went 2-4 with an RBI.

Next Tahoma will play in the state tournament against Jackson 1 p.m. Saturday May 21 at Everett Memorial Stadium in Tacoma.

“Jackson is the No. 1 team in the state,” Hayden said. “If you want to be No. 1 you got to beat them all.”
