Covington’s Absolute Blast U18 Gold softball team will be participating in the Canadian Open Fastpitch Championship July 11-21 in Surrey, British Columbia.

The Absolute Blast team features one Covington athlete, Kendall Goodwin, and area coach Charlie Glenn. The team has traveled around the country, but never to this tournament.

“We’re looking for a softball experience, but also a cultural experience,” Glenn said.

The tournament bills itself as one of the world’s top three women’s fastpitch events and Canada’s largest fastpitch event. More than 1,300 athletes from around the wold will participate in more than 350 games. Three-time champion and 2012 ISF Women’s World Champion, Team Japan, will be participating.

Glenn is confident in his team’s ability.

“Quite frankly, we should win the whole thing,” Glenn said.
