With Kevin Krigger riding his third winner of the day, So Whatabout ran six furlongs in 1minute, 9 seconds on a fast track and paid $9, $3.40 and $2.40. Tim McCanna is the trainer for Hern/LePley Racing.

So Whatabout has four victories this season and eight the last two seasons at Emerald Downs. His overall record is 9-6-3 in 28 starts with earnings of $62,353.

McCanna, bidding to break his own mark of 66 victories set in 2008, saddled two winners Saturday after a three-win night Friday. He’s up to 61 victories, and needs six wins in the final eight days to eclipse the record.

Krigger also is on a roll with five wins in two days, including four on horses trained by McCanna.

Classielyte, the 7-to-10 betting favorite ridden by Ricky Frazier, held second place and paid $2.80 and $2.40. It was the first loss in five starts this season for Classielyte, who was bidding to join Noosa Beach as a five-time winner at the meet.

Skyattic, with apprentice Pedro Terrero riding, finished third and paid $3.60. Strawberry Topper finished fourth and was claimed for $10,000 by trainer Sam Tilden for owner Donald Lawrence.

West Seattle Boy does it again

West Seattle Boy added another dramatic chapter to his remarkable career with a stunning victory in the sixth race.

Last at the eighth-pole, the 11-year-old gelding rallied past the entire field for a head victory under Gallyn Mitchell in 1:16 2/5 for 6 ½ furlongs. West Seattle Boy paid $13.

The track’s all-time leader with 18 wins, including three this season, West Seattle Boy shows no signs of slowing down. He recorded his 17th victory July 25, a triumph that moved him one ahead of both Bob Stories and Market Master on the all-time wins list.

Including 15 races at Portland Meadows, West Seattle Boy has an overall record of 22-12-17 in 93 starts with earnings of $164,357. Rigoberto Velasquez trains West Seattle Boy for owners Lisa Baze and Jerry Carmody.

Mitchell, who has ridden West Seattle Boy in all of his victories this season, is Emerald Downs’ all-time leading jockey with 1,243 wins.

News and Notes

Trainer Richard Yaskus saddled his first winner of the meet as Ringo’s Gold ($6.20) prevailed in the second race.

Patience Rewarded ($3.80) scored as the favorite in the sixth and moved Ron Crockett into a first-place tie with Howard Belvoir in the owners’ standings at 15 victories apiece…Juan Gutierrez rode two winners and also has five wins the last two days.

First-race winner Buckle paid a season-low $2.20 for a $2 win ticket.

Live racing continues Sunday with Washington Cup VIII, a six-stakes card for Washington-breds worth a $250,000 in purse money.
