Smith and Gould make state meet for Kentlake

The Kentlake High track and field team will be sending two athletes to the state meet, and both are top performers. Zach Smith and Brianne Gould will be competing for Kentlake in the 4A state track and field meet, which began Thursday and continues through Saturday at Mount Tahoma Stadium in Tacoma.

Smith will be running in the 100-meter dash at state and in field events he will compete in the long jump and triple jump.

In both the long jump and triple jump Smith posted the best qualifying distance at the West Central District III 4A meet Friday at Mount Tahoma.

Smith took the state gold medal last year in the long jump at 23 feet, 3 inches. He has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of New Mexico.

In the long jump at the district meet, Smith reached 23 feet, 7.75 inches and in the triple jump 46-6.50.

In the dash Smith stopped the clock at 11.03 seconds.

Gould, a senior, will be competing in the pole vault.

She cleared 10-0 at the district meet to earn a spot on the state roster.
