Sheen Falls did it again Saturday in the $10,000 FSA Purse for fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.
The 5-year-old Kentucky-bred mare rallied for a neck victory over betting favorite All the Rage in 1 minute, 16 seconds for 6 ½ furlongs on a fast track. With regular rider Javier Matias aboard, Sheen Falls paid $27.80, $9.40 and $6.40. Steve Fisher is the trainer for owner John Coonan.
Sheen Falls has four career victories, and three of them have occurred in the last year at Emerald Downs—all with Matias riding at odds of 18-to-1, 6-to-1 and 12-to-1.
All the Rage, ridden by Troy Stillwell finished in second place and paid $4.40 and $3. It was three length back to Sun City, ridden by Kevin Krigger, and a $4.20 show payoff.
Also Saturday, leading rider Ricky Frazier rode four winners and moved past the 100-win mark for an unprecedented fourth straight season. Three of his winners Saturday were dismissed at 6-to-1 odds.
Frazier rode both halves of the early daily double— winning the opener on Ready Set Glo ($15.60) and the second race aboard Tweetie Pie ($5.20). The latter victory was Frazier’s 100th at the 78-day-old meeting.
Frazier bagged No. 101 on Stormin’ Peter ($15) in the sixth race and added No. 102 on Stick Save ($15) in the seventh. Frazier has three four-win days at the meet and extended his lead over second-place Juan Gutierrez to 102-75.
