Passion Lives Here rallies for feature victory at Emerald Downs | Horse Racing

Passion Lives Here rallied past the leaders for a three-quarter-length victory Saturday in the $9,500 Kingsport Thoroughbreds Purse for older horses at Emerald Downs. With Inoel Beato riding, Passion Lives Here ran six furlongs in 1 minute, 9 1/5 seconds on a fast track and paid $16.20, $6.80 and $3.80. Dan Markle is the trainer for owners Chuck and Karla Laird of Issaquah.

Passion Lives Here rallied past the leaders for a three-quarter-length victory Saturday in the $9,500 Kingsport Thoroughbreds Purse for older horses at Emerald Downs.

With Inoel Beato riding, Passion Lives Here ran six furlongs in 1 minute, 9 1/5 seconds on a fast track and paid $16.20, $6.80 and $3.80. Dan Markle is the trainer for owners Chuck and Karla Laird of Issaquah.

Thirteengoldhearts, an 11-1 long shot ridden by Jennifer Whitaker, finished second and paid $9.60 and $3.80. Enumerator, the 11-10 favorite ridden by Ricky Frazier, held third place and paid $2.40.

Taken well off the pace, Passion Lives Here benefited from a perfect ride by Beato. The gray gelding skimmed the rail throughout, kicked into high gear in the stretch while rolling past the leaders to win going away.

Enumerator, Seattle Shoofly contested the early lead in fractions of :22, :45 and :57 1/5, a duel which helped ignite the rally fuses of Passion Lives Here and Thirteengoldhearts.

Bred in Washington by the Lairds, Passion Lives Here has an overall mark of 2-2-1 in 10 starts with earnings of $16,346. He scored his maiden victory at odds of 14-1 last July under Cassie Papineau, and had raced in good form this season while posting back-to-back seconds.

• The track’s two all-time leading riders both had milestone victories Saturday. Gallyn Mitchell collected his 1,200th Emerald Downs victory aboard Cider Burg ($3) in the second race, and Ricky Frazier recorded his 800th victory at Emerald Downs aboard Super Starlett ($4.80) in the seventh race.

• Mitchell, Beato and apprentice Pedro Terrero rode two winners apiece on the nine-race card…In a nip-and-tuck jockeys’ race, Terrero owns a 29-28 lead over Frazier, Mitchell and Juan Gutierrez.

• The No. 1 post-position has produced the last four winners in one-mile races including Nancy Perkins ($4.40) in Saturday’s fifth race. Friday, the No. 1 post went three-for-three in mile events.

• Belmont Park will have a pick six carryover of $930,495 when racing resumes Wednesday in New York.

• Dyna Stroll ($16.40) scored a neck victory over Sense of Humor in the $50,000 Jim Coleman Province Stakes for 3-year-olds at Hastings Racecourse. Seven Torrents finished sixth at odds of 8-1.
