The city of Maple Valley Parks & Recreation Department hosted the 2009 Washington Recreation Parks Association Soccer Challenge at Lake Wilderness Park Sept. 19.

Girls and boys ranging in age from 5-14 competed for a chance to represent Maple Valley at the state competition at French Field in October.

Fabio Vargas, Easton Tandecki, Charlie Wilcox, Austin Michalski, Ethan Brown, Madison, Hailee and Rilee Stedman, Brooke Asbury, Taylor Tandecki and Madison Goerdeng earned state competition invitations at the event. This is Asbury’s third trip to the state competition.

Tandecki launched a 44 yard goal kick while Asbury and Goerdeng both buried top-shelf penalty kicks to lead the Maple Valley competitors and look to be strong competition for the rest of the participants from around the state.
