Summer is not simply a time for rest and relaxation for Northern Arizona senior volleyball player Lauren Campbell, who has embarked on a unique summer internships with Boeing while gaining valuable experience as she pursues a future career in mechanical engineering.

Campbell, a mechanical engineering major who became the first All-American in program history after being named a Capital One Academic All-America third team selection in December, is spending her summer interning with Boeing.

She has been writing the specification control document (SCD) for the Fly by Wire flight spoiler power control unit for the 737 aircraft.

Campell also coordinated with suppliers and created documents that pertain to deviations from current SCDs by creating flow gain limit charts and graphs. Clearly, this is not your typical student summer job.

“The reason why I want to work at Boeing is because there is a great atmosphere and the people who work there enjoy their jobs and are fun to work with,” Campbell said. “Boeing is a great company; at no other company can you integrate all facets of the engineering process to create this large of a product. It is truly astonishing what the employees at the Boeing Company can accomplish and I love being a part of that. I hope in the future I can work for this amazing company.”

With a 3.98 GPA during her undergraduate career, Campbell will be one of five seniors looking to lead NAU back to the Big Sky Championship in 2012.
