Kentlake High gymnasts served noticed last Wednesday evening that this is a group that will deserve plenty of attention this winter.

The Falcons ripped off 170.9 points, dispensing of Auburn Riverside (166.4), Auburn Mountainview (160.35) and Olympia (149.35) in a nonleague meet.

“Not a bad meet,” said Auburn Mountainview head coach Jayme Hostetter. “I’m impressed by both Riverside and Kentlake. I think Kentlake will be a 4A contender. It was a really good competitive meet for this early in the season.”

Kentlake was fueled by senior Kayla Shira’s 37.0 point all-around win. Shira, a club gymnast with Auburn Gymnastics who is competing for her school for the first time, finished first on the beam with a 9.45 score and the vault with a 9.0. She also finished second on the bars with a 9.4 score.

“She wasn’t even at her top form,” Hostetter said. “She’s got way more to put out there than she had (Wednesday). I expect her to do even better.”

Falcon teammate Lynnsey Thielman pitched in with a third place finish on the bars, delivering a 9.0 and was second on the beam with a 9.3 score.
