For eight years Kentlake High School senior Katie Beliveau was a gymnast. Then one day, she injured her wrist to the point where she had to quit gymnastics. Instead of getting upset, she decided to do something about it. She became a diver.

Beliveau had heard gymnasts make really good divers, so she decided to try it out. She loved gymnastics so much that anything remotely similar to it, she had to try.

She has spent the last three years of high school as part of the swim team, and this year is no different. She is diving again for the team and is also the senior captain. She is also part of club dive at the King County Aquatics center, she said.

Kentlake’s strongest event is diving, head swim coach Erin Eronemo said. She is excited to see how far the team will go this year and says both of the top divers, which includes Beliveau, will be looking to place in state.

“Katie is a great diver and even better young lady,” Eronemo said.

Swimming and school keep Beliveau busy but it’s her dedication to diving that has led her to becoming the senior captain. Last year she went to state for diving and she finished in ninth place. Her goal for this year is to get at least eighth place at state so she can get on the podium.

Her favorite part about diving is being part of team.

“I like contributing to the sport and having fun with the other divers,” Beliveau said.
