Kentwood and Tahoma girls earn better seeds for district play

The Kentwood and Tahoma girls basketball teams both earned victories in the South Puget Sound 4A Crossover tournament on Tuesday, giving them enhanced seeding during the upcoming district tournament play.

Kentwood defeated Puyallup 57-46, earning a third seed in the tournament, which starts Thursday. Tahoma dropped Emerald Ridge 53-45 to secure the seventh seed.

The Conquerors face Curtis at 7:45 p.m., while the Bears challenge Central Kitsap at 7 p.m.

The boys’ squads didn’t fare as well.

Kentwood fell to Curtis 52-64 on Tuesday, giving them a fourth seed in the district tourney. Tahoma lost to Federal Way, 73-74, leaving them with the sixth seed.

The Kentwood boys will battle Bellarmine Prep at 6 p.m. on Thursday, while Tahoma takes on Curtis at 7 p.m.
