EMERALD DOWNS: Super Dixie wins Sunday feature

Heavily favored Super Dixie led all the way for a 1 ¼-length victory Sunday in the $21,500 FOX Plumbing Purse for 3-year-old fillies at Emerald Downs.

Ridden by Jose Contreras, Super Dixie ran six furlongs in 1 minute, 9 3/5 seconds and paid $3.40, $2.40, and $2.40.

The stakes-winning daughter of Dixie Union gave trainer Doris Harwood the lead in the standings with 48 victories at the meet, one more than eight-time champion Tim McCanna. Harwood also picked up the exacta in the feature race with Topper’s Gem taking second.

Topper’s Gem, under Gallyn Mitchell, made a late move to gain the place and paid $6.40 and $4.40. It was a neck back to Expressa, ridden by Troy Stillwell, and a $3.80 show payoff. Victoriaslilsecret, Editorial, and Dream Sweeper completed the field.

Super Dixie, owned by Herman Sarkowsky, broke quickly out the gate and never looked back as she led through fractions of :22 1/5, :45 1/5 and :57 1/5. The dark bay filly is 4-1-0 in eight career starts with earnings of $65,812.

Track notes:

• Leading rider Ricky Frazier, who injured his knee in Saturday’s first race, took off his mounts for Sunday’s card. He is listed as day-to-day. The wealth was spread across the card as a different jockey won each race on the card.

• You Lift Me Up ($9.60) owned by George Todaro of Seattle won Sunday’s $100,000 Solana Beach Handicap for fillies and mares at Del Mar.

• Racing resumes Thursday with first post at 6 p.m.
