Winifred Charlotte Burd

Winifred Charlotte Burd

April 21, 1922 ~ October 16, 2010

Born in Wheatland, Wyoming, Winnie moved to Washington State with her parents in the 1930’s and graduated from Brewster High School. She married Robert Burd in 1943 and they settled in West Seattle, where their first daughter was born. In 1951 they moved to Burien, where their second daughter was born, and they stayed there through the girls’ school years. Once their nest was empty, Bob & Winnie moved to their present home in Maple Valley. There Winnie worked for several years in the Green River Community College cafeteria, and later for Lake Wilderness Lodge catering. She enjoyed spending time with her family, participating in exercise classes at the Covington Aquatic Center, and driving around town in her signature gold Trans Am. Winnie was an active member of the hydroplane racing community and the Hydroplane and Race Boat Museum. She and Bob traveled to races all over the USA and cultivated many great friendships and memories along the way. Winnie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bob; daughters Carolyn Graham of Maple Valley, WA and Nancy (Tom) Winkle of Glendale, AZ; brother Herb (Donna) Douglass of Portland, OR; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Bonney Watson Washington Memorial Park, 16445 International Blvd, SeaTac.
